At tonight’s NJGOP meeting, the state committee members will consider an ill-advised proposal to eliminate the 2024 New Jersey Republican primary for President of the United States. Somerset County Republican Chair Tim Howes made the following statement:

“I am one hundred percent opposed to the proposal to eliminate the 2024 presidential primary in favor of a state convention. If accepted, that proposal would disenfranchise 1.5 million registered Republicans in New Jersey. Four hundred thousand voters participated in the uncontested 2020 presidential primary.

“I will not be a party to the disenfranchisement of those good, hard working Republicans. I do not agree that we should substitute the judgment of 750 party leaders and insiders for 1.5 million Republicans.

“Many of our core voters have legitimate concerns about voter fraud and unfair elections. If the NJGOP approves this proposal, then it will confirm the suspicion and the belief that many harbor that elections are fixed.

“I support our grassroots, conservative and libertarian Republicans, and will not stand and watch their vote taken from them. The law requires a presidential primary; let’s have one.”
